What is First Aid Level 3 Advanced Training?

First Aid Level 3, or Advanced Emergency First Aid Responder, is designed for people who need to handle complex emergencies with confidence. If your workplace involves high-risk environments like mines, construction sites or industrial plants, this advanced training equips you with the skills and knowledge to act decisively when every second counts.

It builds on the skills from Level 2 Intermediate and focuses on advanced medical interventions, leadership in emergencies, and managing multiple casualties. Responders learn not only to provide immediate care but also to coordinate resources and communicate effectively during critical incidents.

What does First Aid Level 3 Advanced consist of?

Level 3 Advanced goes deeper into emergency care. Participants gain hands-on experience in managing high-stakes medical scenarios, including:

  • CPR and AED use for adults, children and infants.
  • Management of complex injuries, including spinal injuries and fractures.
  • Emergency childbirth.
  • Asthma care, anaphylaxis and shock management.
  • Anatomy and physiology to understand patient responses.

You don’t just learn theory: you practise skills that could save lives, with hands-on exercises and scenario-based learning.

Who should attend?

First Aid Level 3 is for higher-risk workplaces, or for specific risks identified in your risk assessment and audit. No regulation requires Level 3: it is DDi’s advice where the risks call for more than Level 1 or Level 2.

Requirements for First Aid Level 3 Advanced

  • A valid First Aid Level 2 Intermediate certificate, or enrolment in the full Level 1, 2 and 3 course (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced).
  • Communication and mathematical literacy.
  • Be physically able to perform CPR and assist with positioning or lifting patients.

Whether your team operates underground, at height or in industrial plants, we adapt the course to your workplace context. Onsite sessions let your entire team train together, making learning more relevant and cohesive.

Benefits of First Aid Level 3 Advanced Training

  • Enhances emergency response skills beyond basic first aid.
  • Builds leadership and decision-making capabilities in high-risk incidents.
  • Supports compliance with the OHS Act and industry safety standards.
  • Prepares participants for further medical training.

Got questions about our first aid training courses?

Connect With Us

People arrive nervous, because it's an advanced course and they worry whether they'll make it, and excited at the same time. They leave saying they feel equipped to help in an emergency, they don't want to just stand around anymore, and they want to learn more. One of our Advanced delegates went on to rescue training and qualified as a paramedic.

From our facilitators

In the classroom

What the day looks like

A balance of theory and practical, because competence is the knowledge, the skill and the ability to apply it in a real-life scenario. First time? Don't stress: we take you through the process.

  1. Registers and enrolment: attendance registers signed and enrolment forms completed, with your book in front of you to page through before we start.
  2. A short introduction, sometimes an icebreaker, then theory and practical in balance: we start with the primary survey and finish it with CPR practice.
  3. Choking before lunch, so if anyone chokes at lunch, the others can help.
  4. On the last day, a practical assessment, then a short theory assessment. It isn't designed to stress you out.
  5. The assessor assesses and signs off.
  6. Once the assessor and facilitator are happy, they sign the certificates onsite, so competent delegates leave with theirs (we need your ID copy before the training).
