About the course
Many workplaces use, store or move chemicals that can harm people if they are handled the wrong way. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, employers must identify the hazards in their workplace, assess the risks and make sure staff are trained in the safety procedures relevant to their roles, including handling hazardous materials.
This course gives your team a practical understanding of working with hazardous chemical substances: recognising the hazards, following safe work procedures, and knowing what the OHS Act and the Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents, 2021 expect from the business and from each employee.
The Hazardous Chemical Agents (HCA) Regulations replaced the older Hazardous Chemical Substances (HCS) Regulations in 2021. Many people still use the old name, so you may know this course as HCS training: it is the same course, brought up to date.
Why the training matters
Well-structured health and safety training helps employees recognise unsafe acts and conditions, prevent incidents before they occur, and respond effectively when emergencies arise. Without it, businesses face more incidents, downtime and compensation claims, and the legal risk that comes with an unmet duty under the Hazardous Chemical Agents Regulations.
Training also supports your wider compliance. Chemical safety procedures belong in your health and safety file, and a safety audit can check whether the way chemicals are stored and handled on your site meets the requirements.
