About the course
The Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 asks employers to provide and maintain a workplace that is safe and without risk to health, as far as is reasonably practicable. In practice, much of that work falls to managers: they plan the work, direct the people and decide where the money and time go.
This two-day course is for those managers. It looks at health and safety from a management point of view:
- The OHS Act: the duties it places on the employer, managers, supervisors and employees.
- Your responsibilities: legal appointments, including section 16(2) assignments, and what accountability means for a manager.
- Managing risk: making sure hazards are identified, risks are assessed and the right controls are in place.
- Leading a safe workplace: policies, training, incident reporting and working with SHE Representatives and the safety committee.
